IT/ITes Training Programs

The Talent Supply-Demand Analysis Report, recently launched by IT-ITeS Sector Skills Council NASSCOM (SSC NASSCOM), clearly articulates that current Indian education system needs to focus more on higher order thinking skills and hence the report strongly recommends that learning outcomes (based on National Occupational Standards) need to be introduced to country’s education system. A focus on these skills would work towards increasing employability of the Indian graduates and equipping them with the 'right skill set' that can get them a job.

The report, interestingly, evaluates various states of the country, both from ‘talent demand’ as well as ‘talent supply’ perspective. It looks into the student distribution system of various states w.r.t. enrolments to various streams/courses, etc.

The report clearly articulates that the concern in India’s context is not of quantity, but of diminished employability quotient in the students. Therefore, various short, medium and long-term interventions in the Indian education ecosystem, in association with Govt. and Academic stakeholders, will prove to be the key to sustain India’s leadership position as the land of young and talented pool.

Big confusion whether IT or IT/ITes is same or not, but the ITES sector differs from the IT industry in many ways.

  • 1) The manpower requirement of ITES industry: It needs graduates and undergraduates more from general streams like Arts, Commerce and Science with soft skills.
  • 2) The investments requirement per employee in core infrastructure and facilities is higher as compared to that in an IT industry.
  • 3) 24x7 operation as opposed to one/two shift operation in the IT industry.
  • 4) The compensation package at entry level is much smaller compared to those in the IT sector though there is ample scope for fast growth.
